Danse Russe

It’s written in free verse and doesn’t follow any rhyme scheme.

The poem, in summary, focuses on the feelings that the author goes
through at the time. From the beginning of the poem we find out that
the speaker is alone while the rest of his family is sleeping. We can
understand that everything happens during the night time through the
next verse: ‘’and the sun is a flame-white disc’’. The night and the mist
give him a feeling of peace that allows him to relax. In the next part of
the poem we find the speaker is dancing and singing naked in front of
the mirror from his room: ‘’if I in my north room/ dance naked,
grotesquely/ before my mirror/.. and singing softly to myself/’’. He uses
the word ‘’grotesquely’’ to describe the attitude that others would have
if they would find out the shameful things that he is doing. From the
lyrics that he sings, we ca understand that his life does not completely
fulfil him: ‘’I’m lonely, lonely/ I was born to be lonely, / I am best so/’’.
At the end of the poem we can understand that he is happiest when he
is alone, when he has time to do everything he wants without being
judged and when he is able to analyze himself.

IF- allows him to be himself
