J. K.

Rowling: A Role Model for All Teenagers

Early life

J.K. Rowling`s real name is Joanne "Jo" Rowling and she is a famous English novelist, screenwriter and film
producer who became famous after the Harry Potter series, which have won a lot of awards and have sold
around 400 million copies.

She was born in Yate, England on 31st July 1965, in a small family consisting of her mother, Anne, her
father, James, and her sister, Dianne. When she was just a child, she used to write fantasy stories which
she read to her sister. She didn`t have a happy teenage life because her mother was ill and she didn`t
have a very good relationship with her father but this led to the creation of an interesting fictional
character, Hermione Granger, who is based on herself.

Before she became a famous writer, she worked as a secretary and researcher for Amnesty International.
She came up with the idea of writing ”Harry Potter” while she was travelling by train from Manchester to
London. Her life has not been easy because her mother died, she got divorced and she had to raise her
child alone.I consider her to be a real role model because she was really poor at first and she lived on
state benefits but after Harry Potter`s success, she became a multi-millionaire. This is even more
surprising as it happened in only five years.

Harry Potter Series

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

This is the first novel in the series and J. K. Rowling`s debut novel, first published in 1997 in England and
in the following year in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone . The book
follows Harry Potter, a young wizard who discovers his magical powers as he makes close friends and a
few enemies in his first year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With the help of his
friends, Harry faces an attempted comeback by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's
parents, but failed to kill Harry when he was just a year old.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Published in 1998, this is the second novel in the Harry Potter series, and the plot follows Harry's second
year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, during which a series of messages on the walls of the
school's corridors warn that the "Chamber of Secrets" has been opened and that the "heir of Slytherin"
would kill all pupils who do not come from all-magical families. These threats are found after attacks
which leave residents of the school "petrified" (frozen like stone). Throughout the year, Harry and his
friends Ron and Hermione investigate the attacks.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third novel in the Harry Potter series, written by J. K.
Rowling. The book follows Harry Potter, a young wizard, in his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry. Along with friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Harry investigates Sirius Black, an
escaped prisoner from Azkaban who they believe is one of Lord Voldemort's old allies. The book was
published in 1999 and it was very well received by the public.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was published in 2000 and is the fourth novel in the Harry
Potter series. The book follows Harry Potter, now a wizard in his fourth year at Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry and the mystery surrounding the entry of Harry's name into the Triwizard
Tournament, in which he is forced to compete.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the fifth novel in the Harry Potter series and it is the longest
book. The plot follows Harry Potter's struggles through his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry, including the surreptitious return of the antagonist Lord Voldemort, O.W.L. exams, and an
obstructive Ministry of Magic. The novel was published in 2003 in the United Kingdom, the United States,
and Canada. The book was an immediate succes because five million copies were sold in the first 24
hours of publication.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth and penultimate novel in the Harry Potter series, and
was released in 2005. Harry potter is now in his sixth year at Hogwartsand the novel explores Harry's
relationship with his enemy from the past, Lord Voldemort, and Harry's preparations for the final battle
against Voldemort alongside his headmaster and mentor Albus Dumbledore. This was an instant success,
too, because in just 24 hours after its release, it sold nine million copies.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final novel of the Harry Potter series and was
released on 21 July 2007 in England, the USA and Canada. The book presents the final battle between the
wizards Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort, but it also reveals secrets from the past of several main
characters. The title of the book refers to three mythical objects featured in the story, collectively known
as the "Deathly Hallows": an unbeatable wand, a stone to bring the dead to life, and a cloak of invisibility.
This last book broke any previous record held by any of the ”Harry Potter ” books as it sold fifteen million
copies in the first 24 hours after its release.
