Overtime Pay
+ When employees work more than certain number of hours
per week (usually 40 hours) they are paid overtime.
+ Like shift premiums, the overtime rate can also be paid to
employees when they work beyond the regular hours.
+ The regular hourly rate usually increases by time and
one half (x 1.5) or double time (x 2).
Regular Pay = hourly rate x #hours worked
Overtime Rate = hourly rate x 1.5 (or 2)
Overtime Pay = Overtime rate x #overtime hours
Gross Pay = Regular pay + Overtime Pay
Examples:
1. John earns $13.50/h and gets time and one half if he
works more than 40 hours in a week, Calculate his
gross pay for a week in which he works 46.5 hours.
