RAMADAN MUBARAK!

Make MLFA Your #1 Priority this Ramadan

When federal law enforcement lies to put an innocent Muslim behind bars,
who will have the courage to stand up for justice and defend the innocent? MLFA!

Dear

As salaamu alaykum and Ramadan Mubarak! I pray that this letter reaches you in good
health and strong iman.

Immediately after the horrific mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, police
naturally went to the shooter’s apartment to search for clues and seek answers. However,
when the FBI got the shooter’s wife, Noor Salman, alone in a room, they didn’t like when
she said she didn’t know about her husband’s plans.

It seemed they assumed because she’s Muslim, she must have known and must have been
an accomplice. I don’t say this lightly. Out of the thousands of shootings in America, only
one spouse has been put on trial: Noor Salman.

They needed a scapegoat to put behind bars. They wanted to put her behind bars, and they
apparently didn’t care what they had to do to make it happen.

If you think this sounds a little too over-the-top, so do we.

But it’s the truth, and we need your financial contributions to
push back against this type of abuse of power. Use the enclosed
postage-paid envelope or go to mlfa.org/ramadan18 to donate online.

When the FBI put Noor in a room, she had only two hours of sleep. They interrogated her
for 11 hours, which is three times what is considered extreme. They even threatened to take
away her five-year-old son – something her abusive husband threatened all the time – if she
did not confess.

They even threatened to place her son in a non-Muslim home to be raised in another faith
if she didn’t do as they said!

When Noor Salman and her loved ones approached

Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA) and

Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America
(CLCMA) for help, there were a lot of articles in the
media in which the FBI were claiming “She Knew”
about her husband’s plans to shoot people in Orlando.

However, it didn’t take long for attorneys at CLCMA

to see that something was not right with the FBI’s
claims. Thanks to the talented team of attorneys,
paralegals, investigators and subject matter experts,
the truth came out during the trial. Here are some of
the shocking truths they uncovered:

Lie: “She knew” about her husband’s plans.

Truth: Noor’s husband kept secrets from her, including Noor Salman poses with her MLFA-funded legal de
numerous affairs he had with other women in addition From left to right: Linda Moreno, Fritz Scheller, No
to his plans to engage in a mass shooting in Orlando.
Text messages from Noor to her husband on the morning of the incident included her
asking where he was and reminding him that he had work in the morning. She didn’t know.

Lie: Noor’s confession was true and proves she was guilty.
Truth: The FBI interrogated Noor for 11 hours without an attorney representing her
interests. She had only 2 hours of sleep. They threatened to take her 5-year-old son away
and give him to non-Muslim parents if she didn’t do what they said. Because of her learning
disabilities and history as a victim of domestic abuse, she was highly susceptible to agreeing
to a false confession -- a confession the FBI wrote for her to sign.

Lie: Noor and her husband scouted the Pulse nightclub location together.
Truth: The FBI had cell tower and other data that proved this part of her alleged confession
was false, casting the whole confession into serious doubt.

Lie: Noor is a conniving, manipulative “jihadi” Muslim wife who was so materialistic
that she was happy to take gifts of jewelry and perfume in exchange for not telling anyone
about her husband’s plans.
Truth: Noor is a kind, simple woman who wouldn’t accept money for babysitting her
brother’s special needs child. She would take money her husband gave her and buy gifts
for her friends’ children instead of spending it on herself. She suffered at the hands of her
husband, who beat, raped her repeatedly, and threatened to take her son away if she left.

Lie: The Pulse attack was a planned attack on the LGBT community because Muslims, like

Noor, hate gays and want to kill them.
Truth: One of Noor’s few social media posts was about
how ISIS’s treatment of people is not representative of
Islam, even going so far as to say that they are not
true Muslims. Her views are well-known to be tolerant
and her mannerisms gentle. Furthermore, her husband
chose the Pulse nightclub at the last minute because
his other target was too well guarded. He didn’t even
know it was a gay club.

Lie: The FBI was just doing its job.

Truth: The FBI knew the alleged confession they wrote
for Noor was false two days after she signed it. They
knew she didn’t scout the nightclub. They knew the
Pulse nightclub wasn’t even the original target. They
nded legal defense attorneys after her acquittal. knew she struggled with a learning disability. They
Scheller, Noor Salman, and Charles Swift. knew she was vulnerable. They knew and they still
did everything they could to put an innocent Muslim
woman behind bars for LIFE! The prosecution painted a false picture -- and they knew it!

Muslim Legal Fund of America is the ONLY national 501c3 nonprofit legal fund dedicated
to defending the constitutional civil rights and liberties of Muslims in America.

Fortunately, MLFA and CLCMA saw through these lies. CLCMA decided to take the case
and MLFA agreed to fund the legal expenses. CLCMA assembled a legal defense team of
roughly 20 professionals who defended Noor’s innocence.

After a three-week trial and 12 hours of deliberation, the jury returned a “Not Guilty”
verdict, acquitting Noor of all charges against her. Now, after spending nearly a year behind
bars away from her son, she can return home and rebuild her life -- thanks to the generosity
of donors like you.

Two Legal Victories in One

In addition to winning Noor’s freedom, the talented legal defense team at CLCMA exposed
misconduct of the FBI, prosecution and Department of Justice. These violations of Noor’s
rights include:

2018 Ramadan DM - Letter2.indd 3 5/4/18 11:58 AM

• Withholding evidence favorable to Noor from her CLCMA defense team, such as the
cell tower data that proved Noor did not scout the Pulse nightclub as her alleged confes-
sion claimed
• Hiding the fact that the shooter’s father was an FBI informant who likely helped stop the
FBI’s earlier investigation into Omar Mateen
• Relying on Islamophobic stereotypes in hopes of swaying the jury to decide her fate
based on prejudice instead of the evidence

The Fight for Justice is Not Over

This legal victory is not the end of the story. Muslims are still being unfairly targeted and
unjustly treated in American courtrooms. Examples of MLFA-funded cases that CLCMA
is currently working on include:

• Entrapment of Asia Siddiqui: A young, emotionally and intellectually vulnerable

Muslim woman in New York who was targeted by an informant who attempted to entrap
Asia into agreeing to commit a criminal act. Government prosecuting her as if she is a
dangerous criminal mastermind.
• Government Overreach against Armin Harcevic: A generous mosque-goer who
gave money to friends under the belief that the money was going to charity when it
really went for illegal purposes. Government prosecuting him as if he knowingly gave
it directly to terrorists.

These are just examples. Injustice happens in many forms, including immigration denials,
security status revocations, mosque building permit denials and employment terminations
-- all because of their Muslim identity.
