When federal law enforcement lies to put an innocent Muslim behind bars,
who will have the courage to stand up for justice and defend the innocent? MLFA!
Dear
As salaamu alaykum and Ramadan Mubarak! I pray that this letter reaches you in good
health and strong iman.
Immediately after the horrific mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, police
naturally went to the shooter’s apartment to search for clues and seek answers. However,
when the FBI got the shooter’s wife, Noor Salman, alone in a room, they didn’t like when
she said she didn’t know about her husband’s plans.
It seemed they assumed because she’s Muslim, she must have known and must have been
an accomplice. I don’t say this lightly. Out of the thousands of shootings in America, only
one spouse has been put on trial: Noor Salman.
They needed a scapegoat to put behind bars. They wanted to put her behind bars, and they
apparently didn’t care what they had to do to make it happen.
When the FBI put Noor in a room, she had only two hours of sleep. They interrogated her
for 11 hours, which is three times what is considered extreme. They even threatened to take
away her five-year-old son – something her abusive husband threatened all the time – if she
did not confess.
They even threatened to place her son in a non-Muslim home to be raised in another faith
if she didn’t do as they said!
Lie: Noor’s confession was true and proves she was guilty.
Truth: The FBI interrogated Noor for 11 hours without an attorney representing her
interests. She had only 2 hours of sleep. They threatened to take her 5-year-old son away
and give him to non-Muslim parents if she didn’t do what they said. Because of her learning
disabilities and history as a victim of domestic abuse, she was highly susceptible to agreeing
to a false confession -- a confession the FBI wrote for her to sign.
Lie: Noor and her husband scouted the Pulse nightclub location together.
Truth: The FBI had cell tower and other data that proved this part of her alleged confession
was false, casting the whole confession into serious doubt.
Lie: Noor is a conniving, manipulative “jihadi” Muslim wife who was so materialistic
that she was happy to take gifts of jewelry and perfume in exchange for not telling anyone
about her husband’s plans.
Truth: Noor is a kind, simple woman who wouldn’t accept money for babysitting her
brother’s special needs child. She would take money her husband gave her and buy gifts
for her friends’ children instead of spending it on herself. She suffered at the hands of her
husband, who beat, raped her repeatedly, and threatened to take her son away if she left.
Lie: The Pulse attack was a planned attack on the LGBT community because Muslims, like
Muslim Legal Fund of America is the ONLY national 501c3 nonprofit legal fund dedicated
to defending the constitutional civil rights and liberties of Muslims in America.
Fortunately, MLFA and CLCMA saw through these lies. CLCMA decided to take the case
and MLFA agreed to fund the legal expenses. CLCMA assembled a legal defense team of
roughly 20 professionals who defended Noor’s innocence.
After a three-week trial and 12 hours of deliberation, the jury returned a “Not Guilty”
verdict, acquitting Noor of all charges against her. Now, after spending nearly a year behind
bars away from her son, she can return home and rebuild her life -- thanks to the generosity
of donors like you.

In addition to winning Noor’s freedom, the talented legal defense team at CLCMA exposed
misconduct of the FBI, prosecution and Department of Justice. These violations of Noor’s
rights include:
This legal victory is not the end of the story. Muslims are still being unfairly targeted and
unjustly treated in American courtrooms. Examples of MLFA-funded cases that CLCMA
is currently working on include:
These are just examples. Injustice happens in many forms, including immigration denials,
security status revocations, mosque building permit denials and employment terminations
-- all because of their Muslim identity.
We cannot continue to fund the work that makes justice possible without your generous
contributions. We need you to stand up for justice. We urgently need you to make a zakat-
eligible, tax-deductible donation today.
Together, we are making a difference. “For every day on which the sun rises,
