1 概述:
General introduction
 Seal oil control system of YK-360 type is designed and manufactured for the
steam turbine generator of 360MW. It provides the shaft seal of the generator with
continuous seal oil and also the monitor and protection.
 This type of steam turbine generator uses the way of water-cooling---
hydrogen-cooling —hydrogen-cooling. That is, the stator winding adopts water
cooling; the rotor winding uses interior hydrogen cooling and the iron mandrel
hydrogen cooling. The double shaft seal ring (pipelines of the hydrogen-side and air-
side) is adopted for the sake of hydrogen in the seal generator. This seal oil system
guarantees the oil mass, oil temperature and oil pressure.
 These instructions for the seal oil system are the documents with technical
explanations and guidance for the products debugging at field, the start-up and
operations as well as the packaging and maintenance.

Sealing principles
 This system is of packaging type, correspondent with the double shaft
seal ring of the generator. In the shaft seal ring of generator, there are two ring-type oil
supply tanks. The oil, running out of the tank, running through the interior shaft seal
ring and the between-shafts radial clearance, flows out along the shaft. The oil
pressure is higher than the hydrogen pressure in the generator. In this way, the
independent hydrogen-side and air-side seal oil systems form. When the oil-supply
pressures in the two systems are balanced, the oil will not flow between the two oil
supply tanks. The oil in the hydrogen-side of the seal oil system will flow along the
shaft towards the direction of the generator, while the oil in the air-side to the outer
bearing direction. Duo to the pressure equilibrium between the two systems, the oil
flow keeps relatively still between the two oil supply tanks.

 This seal oil control system consists of the following components: the
air-side AC pump, the air-side DC pump, the hydrogen-side AC pump, the air-side DC
pump, the air-side filter, the hydrogen-side filter, seal oil tank and oil level signal
meter, the oil-water cooler, the differential pressure regulator, the equalizing valve, the
hydrogen and oil separation tank, the cut-off valve, the inversion-stop valve ,the
butterfly bumper, the manometer, the thermometer, the transducer, the linking
pipelines, ect.. See the seal principle chart in details.

Operation mode and design parameter of seal oil system


 When the seal oil control system works normally, the two lines of seal oil
from the air-side and the hydrogen-side go around the ring-type oil chambers of the
generator shaft seal ring respectively, which seals the hydrogen in the generator.
Besides, the seal oil also has lubricating and cooling effect on the shaft seal ring.
 This seal oil control system adopts the structure of double shaft seal ring.
The hydrogen pressure is 0.35MPa in normal working condition. When disorder
occurs, the system can also work with hydrogen pressure being reduced. The shaft
seal oil-supply system can keep the difference of hydrogen and seal oil at 0.085MPa
by itself and provides the continuous seal oil for the shaft seal ring of the generator.

Seal oil system
 This seal oil system is made up of two pipelines at the hydrogen side and the
air side respectively, which are independent from as well as related with each other.
They supply oil for the double shaft seal ring at the same time.

Air-side pipeline
 (1) Main operating oil source: the normal working oil source of the air-side
seal oil is supplied by the AC electric seal oil pump. The outlet pressure of seal oil
pump is 0.25- 0.8 MPa. Oil-supply of the shaft seal ring uses the by-pass differential
pressure regulator to adjust the difference of hydrogen and seal oil. The differential
pressure regulator adjusts the air-side oil pressure automatically according to the
hydrogen pressure in the generator to ensure that the normal operation of the shaft seal
ring and the difference of hydrogen and seal oil is 0.085MPa. The air-side oil, boosted
by the seal oil pump, cooled by a pipe cooler and filtered by a self-cleaning scraping
oil filter, enters the air-side oil rings of the shaft seal rings at each end. The returning
oil and bearing oil meets together and then returns to the hydrogen and oil separation
tank, and thus form an air-side closed cycle system.

Spare oil sources


 The first spare oil source (that is the main spare oil source) is the 0.88-
2.1MPa hydraulic oil from the main oil pump of the steam turbine. This spare oil is
supplied for the air-side shaft seal ring after pressure is reduced through the pressure-
relief valve on the pipeline. The outlet oil pressure at the pressure-relief valve is
0.8MPa. And the oil mass is 240L/min. when the operating oil source is out of order
and the difference of hydrogen and seal oil reduces to 0. 056MPa, the spare
differential pressure regulator installed in the pipe will open automatically and the
spare oil source will be also in operation automatically.
 The second spare oil source is also supplied by the steam turbine oil
system, that is, the spare AC electric seal oil pump in the main oil tank of the steam
turbine. Since it is in the same pipeline as the first one, this spare oil source enters the
shaft seal ring through the spare differential pressure regulator and is put into
operation when the differential pressure reduces to 0.056MPa. When the coaxial
rotational speed of the steam turbine exceeds 2/3 of the specified speed, the main shaft
oil pump of the steam turbine can supply oil with the first oil source; when it is lower
than that number or when it is out of order, only the second oil source can be in
operation.
 The third spare oil source is supplied by the self-contained DC electric
oil pump in the seal oil system. The DC electric oil pump and the alternate current
electric oil pump are merged in the same pipeline, when differential pressure reduces
to 0.035MPa, the DC oil pump will start, and hydrogen oil differential pressure will
come back to 0.085MPa. This oil source can only work for about 1 hour, so the
alternate current oil pump should be checked and repaired as soon as possible.
 The fourth spare oil source is also supplied by the stream turbine oil
system. The oil is supplied by the bearing lubricating oil pump of the stream turbine,
and the oil pressure is relatively low, that is, 0.035 ~ 0.105MPa. So at this time the
hydrogen pressure in the turbine should be reduced to 0.014MPa.

 The normal working oil source of the hydrogen-side seal oil is supplied
by the AC electric oil pump. The pressure oil from the AC pump, after being cooled
by the tube-type cooler, filtered by the self-cleaning oil filter, is distributed into the
turbine end and exciter end two lines, then after passing through equalizing valves
respectively, enter the hydrogen-side shaft seal ring in the turbine end and exciter end
of the stream turbine. According to the air-side oil pressure, the valves will
automatically regulate the oil pressure in the air and hydrogen sides. After being
balanced, the oil will enter the hydrogen-side shaft seal ring of the generator. The
hydrogen-side shaft seal ring returning oil, after the bubbles have been disposed by the
defoaming tank of the generator, enters the system oil seal tank, and then returns to the
hydrogen-side oil pump, thus forms a close-type circulating oil circuit system. The
equalizing valves are used to ensure that the oil pressure in the hydrogen and air sides
are the same, and the differential pressure should be no more than 50mm water
column.

 In order to make sure that the hydrogen-side oil circuit can supply
continuous reliable working oil sources, spare DC oil pump is installed in the
hydrogen-side. When the AC oil pump gets out of order, the spare DC oil pump will
begin to work automatically.
 There is hydrogen in the hydrogen-side circuit; the hydrogen separated
from the seal oil tank comes back to the generator through hydrogen-returning pipe.
When installing the hydrogen-side oil-returning line, pay attention to the slope and
angle, avoid the formation of up-and-down and dog leg, prevent the formation of air
seal, which will hinder the normal oil return and hydrogen return.

Main components of the seal oil system


Oil seal tank
 Oil seal tank is the oil-returning device of the hydrogen-side oil circuit.
There is an oil-filling and oil-draining ball float valve, which can automatically fill
and drain oil according to the height of the oil level in the oil seal tank, thus to
maintain the relative stable of the oil level in the oil seal tank. When the generator

works under high hydrogen pressure, the oil is filled by the filter outlet in the oil-
supplying pipeline of the air-side seal oil, and is then drained to the oil-supplying
main pipe of the air-side oil pump through the oil-draining ball float valve in the oil
seal tank. The seal oil system starts to work when there is no hydrogen or only low
hydrogen pressure in the generator, because the air-side oil supply comes from the
hydrogen and oil separation tank in the bottom of the generator, thus there is about
0.1MPa static pressure compared to the seal oil system assembling, while the pressure
in the oil seal tank approaches to the atmospheric pressure, so when the oil level is
high, the oil can’t be drained directly to the air-side oil supply through oil-draining
ball float valve. In order to solve the oil-draining problem of the oil seal tank when
there is no or low hydrogen pressure, a communicating pipe is installed between the
hydrogen-side filter outlet and the air-side oil-supplying pipeline, then the oil is
drained to the air-side oil supply after it’s pressure is lifted by the hydrogen-side oil
pump, so when there is no or low hydrogen pressure, the full oil problem of the oil
seal tank is solved. There is a liquid level gauge in the oil seal tank, which is used to
observe the liquid level of the oil seal tank directly. There is also liquid alarm system
on the top of the oil seal tank, which is used to send the alarm signals to the Central
Control Room when the oil level changes beyond the set oil levels.

Pressure regulating valve (Differential pressure regulator)


Normal pressure regulating valve
 Normal pressure regulating valve is installed in the shunt circuit of the
air-side main circuit, and it can automatically regulate the difference of hydrogen and
seal oil ( 0.085MPa ) . When the differential pressure is small, one can press the
elastic spring to increase the differential pressure, and when the differential pressure is
large, one can do oppositely.
Spare pressure regulating valve (spare differential pressure regulator)
 Spare pressure regulator valve is installed in the spare oil pipeline of
high pressure oil to automatically regulate the difference of hydrogen and seal
oil ( 0.056MPa ) . Its working principle is contrary to that of the normal pressure
regulating valve, when the differential pressure is small, one can press the elastic

spring to increase the differential pressure, and when the differential pressure is large,
one can do the opposite so as to make it reach the set value(0.056MPa).

Equalizing valve
 Equalizing valve is installed (vertical face-down) in the main pipeline of
the hydrogen-side system which supplies oil to the generator. There is a compression
spring in the valve, which is used to compensate the spool weight. By adjusting the
screw rod at the bottom of the equalizing valve, one can trim the position of the piston
in the equalizing valve to increase the equalizing accuracy. The adjusted accuracy can
reach ±50mm water column.

Drain regulator
 On the hydrogen-side oil-returning pipeline is installed drain regulator, on
which two induced-draft fans are installed, one in operation, and the other for
emergency. So oil fume and hydrogen in the air-side oil return can be drained out of
the workshop. An inversion stop valve is installed in the fume draining system to
prevent the return of the oil fume.

Oil-water cooler
 Oil-water cooler adopts tube-type cooler. There are two coolers for air-
side and hydrogen-side respectively, one in operation, and the other for emergency.

Oil filter
 The air and hydrogen sides are equipped with two drag-type self-cleaning oil
filters respectively, which can bear high pressure. Filter oil with high precision, and
work safely and reliably. When the cores of the filters are dirty, one can turn the hand
wheels (fixed timing turn under normal circumstance), so the dirt on the cores of the
filters can be scraped out. Then open the blow down valve at the bottom to let the dirt
go.

Debug programs of the seal oil system


 The seal oil system should be put into operation before the generator
starts or hydrogen is filled. Debug according to the following programs before the seal
oil system is put into operation:

 Set all valves according to the valves open and close positions indicated by
seal oil system chart. At the same time check carefully to see if the system has cleared
greasy dirt completely.

 Set the air-side seal oil side valve 258#to maximal opening, so that the side
valve can be opened to drain oil under high pressure, and in case that high pressure
formed when other outlet pipeline valves are in improper position which will damage
manometer when the air-side pump starts.

 Set the main differential pressure valve 256#. Loosen the compression
spring so that the valve can be opened to drain oil under minimum difference of the
hydrogen and seal oil. After the pump starts, loosen the air delivery plug screw in the
oil cavity to let about 1 kilo oil flow out through it and then screw it up , drain out the
air which enters into the accordion pipe, so as to guarantee the stable operation of the
main differential pressure valve.

 Close valves 263 # 、 265 # and 266 # , cut off the stream turbine spare oil
source in the seal oil system.

 Start the air-side AC seal oil pump to supply the shaft seal ring with seal oil.

 The air-side oil flows into the hydrogen-side seal oil tank through ball float
valve 232#.

 The air-side oil flows into the defoaming tank and reaches to certain liquid
level.

 The air-side oil continues to flow into the defoaming tank and then flows into
the hydrogen-side seal oil tank through overflow connecting pipe. Ball float valves
231#and 232#control the oil level of the hydrogen-side seal oil tank to keep stable
oil level in the oil tank. When the oil level in the oil tank increases, the ball float valve
231# will be opened to let the excessive oil flow out. When the oil level in the oil
tank reduces, the ball float valve 232#will be opened to let oil from the air-side seal
oil system flow into the oil tank. When emergency occurs, screw rode can be used to

open or close the ball float valves 231#and 232#.

 Close the side valve 258#slowly and observe whether the outlet pressure of the
air-side seal oil pump is lower than the maximum pressure 0.8MPa which is permitted
by the system so as to decide whether the main differential pressure valve can work
normally.

 Partially close the pressure valve 238#of the main differential pressure valve oil
pressure signal pipe, and avoid vibration of the main differential pressure valve 256#.
Under normal circumstance, the valve is set about two to three rings of the valve
opening (or add throttle orifice whose shrinkage void isΦ1~Φ2).

 Set main differential pressure valve 256#, keep the air-side seal oil pressure of
the generator axle shaft seal ring 0.085MPa higher than the hydrogen pressure of the
generator axle shaft seal ring( the oil pressure can be about 0.105MPa when the oil is
cool).

 Set the hydrogen-side safety valve 243#. Loosen its top screw rod to make it
reach maximum opening so that it can be opened under low pressure, and in case that
the improper open or close position of other outlet valves of the pump will damage
manometer when the hydrogen-side pump starts.

 Start hydrogen-side seal oil pump to supply hydrogen-side seal oil pressure for
the axle shaft seal ring.

 Close outlet valves of the equalizing valve 211#and 218#., slowly close side
valve 242 # , and set the outlet oil pressure of the hydrogen-side seal oil pump to
about 0.5MPa.

 Open outlet valves of the equalizing valves 211#、218# and side valve 242#,
and set again side valve 242# when the generator starts to work.

 Use the adjusting screw at the bottom of the valves to set equalizing valves 210
#and 217#, and make sure that the indicating needle deviation of each differential
gauge corresponding to the valves is within ±50mm water column pressure.. Make
sure that the screw cap of the adjusting screw must be locked firmly after adjusting.

 Under circumstances mentioned above, equalizing valves 210#and 217#can


guarantee that the hydrogen-side seal oil pressure and the air-side seal oil pressure of
the axle shaft seal ring are almost the same.

 The spare oil source from the stream turbine high pressure oil enters into the
seal oil system through pressure relief valve 291#.

The pressure relief valve should be set according to the following procedures:
 Keep the pressure relief valve 291#closed and start the high pressure
oil auxiliary oil pump of the stream turbine (or the seal oil spare pump of the main oil
tank in the stream turbine). When the pressure relief valve is adjusted to the maximum
pressure, set the safety valve 280 #to make it reach the designed value 1.05MPa of
the seal oil system. When the rotational speed of the stream turbine main axle reaches
more than 2/3 of the standard rotational speed, the axle oil pump will supply the
system with spare seal oil.

 Adjust pressure relief valve 291 # to conform to the outlet oil pressure value
0.88MPa, which is set in the seal oil system chart.

 Open valves 263#and 265#.

 Close the air-side seal oil pump and start the stream turbine high pressure
auxiliary oil pump.
 Set the spare differential pressure valve 264 # and keep the air-side seal oil
pressure of the axle shaft seal ring 0.056MPa higher than the hydrogen pressure in the

generator.

 When the oil pressure of the pressure relief valve outlet in the stream turbine
spare source reduces to 0.6MPa, check the open or close position of the spare pressure
switch. Turn down the pressure relief valve 291 # , and make sure that the spare
differential pressure valve 264#is in its open position. Set the opening of the pressure
relief valve 291 # until its outlet oil pressure is 0.6MPa. Make the pressure switch
(10) close under this value, and send out the low alarm signal of the stream turbine
spare oil pressure. Recover the adjustment of the valve 264 # and the outlet oil
pressure of the pressure relief valve 291#. Close the high pressure auxiliary pump of
the stream turbine.

Start the air-side seal oil pump.

 One should check each oil pump that is shown in seal oil system chart, from
which the spare oil source of the stream turbine oil system comes, so as to ensure that
each pump can function normally under emergency.

 When the differential pressure of the axle shaft seal ring reduces to 0.035MPa,
the differential pressure switch (8) will close automatically. Start air-side spare DC
pump using DC starting equipment. Open valve 273 # and check to see whether
differential pressure switch (8) and DC spare pump work normally. Close valve 248#
temporarily. Then observe the manometer reading. Open valve 274 # slowly.
Differential pressure switch (8) moves when the manometer reading is 0.040MPa
lower than before. Send out the alarm signal that the seal oil pressure is low. Close
valve 274#, open valve 248#, and close the DC spare pump of the air-side seal oil.

 Check the state of the differential pressure switch (7). When the oil differential
pressure between the two ends of the air-side seal oil pump reduces to 0.035MPa,
close differential pressure (7), and send out the alarm signal that the air-side seal oil
pump stops.

 Check the state of the differential pressure switch ( 11B ) . When the
differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the hydrogen-side seal oil spare
pump reduces to 0.035MPa, close differential pressure switch(11B), and send out
alarm signal that the hydrogen-side seal oil spare pump stops.

 Stop the hydrogen-side seal oil pump and the differential pressure switch
(11A)should be closed. When the differential pressure between the inlet and outlet
of the hydrogen-side seal oil pump reduces to 0.035MPa, close differential pressure
switch (11A). It automatically switches to DC spare pump and send out the alarm
signal that the hydrogen-side seal oil pump stops.

 Start the hydrogen-side seal oil pump, and the oil supply system of the seal oil
begins to work normally.

 It’s only after all the above programs have been checked that the generator can
begin to work.

Adjusting procedures when the generator works:


 When the generator is at its synchronous speed, the outlet oil temperature of the
seal oil cooler is between 27℃~50℃, final adjustments should be made for the seal
oil system according to following procedures.

Adjust differential pressure valve 256#again and keep the seal oil pressure 0.085MPa
higher than the hydrogen pressure in the generator. Adjustments should be made under
low hydrogen pressure, because 0.021MPa pressure drop will be produced because of
the influences of the multilevel fans under high hydrogen pressure. The hydrogen
pressure of the main differential pressure valve comes from the high pressure area in
the generator, so it will not be influenced by the state of the hydrogen pressure in the
generator. But the hydrogen manometer is connected to the low hydrogen area in the
generator, that is to say, the differential value between the hydrogen manometer and the

seal oil manometer is 0.085MPa under low hydrogen pressure, but it will increase to
0.105MPa superficially when the hydrogen pressure increases. But this is not the true
differential value; the hydrogen pressure in the high pressure area of the generator is
0.021MPa higher than the low pressure area of the generator. The oil pressure of the
axle shaft seal ring is still only 0.085MPa higher than the hydrogen pressure of its
neighboring generator. If the generator works at its synchronous speed, the seal oil
temperature is 27℃ ~ 50℃, and there is low pressure in the generator, the main
differential pressure valve needn’t be adjusted again when the hydrogen pressure
increases once it has been adjusted well.

 Close the air-side seal oil pump, and check the state of the spare differential
pressure valve 264#. When the differential value between the seal oil pressure of the
axle shaft seal ring and the hydrogen pressure in the generator reduces to 0.056MPa,
open the spare differential pressure valve 264 # immediately. Just like the
circumstance mentioned above, the superficial differential value may be 0.021MPa
higher than the specified differential value 0.056MPa when the pressure is high in the
generator, but this is because that the hydrogen manometer signal and the seal oil
signal come from different pressure areas. As for the spare differential pressure valve
264# itself, if the generator works at its synchronous speed, the seal oil temperature
is 27℃~50℃, and the pressure is low in the generator, the differential pressure value
will remain unchanged once it has been adjusted well to 0.056MPa, even when under
high hydrogen pressure, the actual hydrogen oil differential pressure will not change.
Check the air-side DC spare pump, when the signal differential pressure switch (8)
closes, the spare pump will automatically start immediately.

 When the generator works normally and the differential pressure between the
hydrogen-side seal oil and the air-side seal oil exceeds ±50mm water column, adjust
the equalizing valves 210#and 217#again.

The seal oil system works under normal circumstance:


 Maintain the seal oil pressure of the axle shaft seal ring when there is hydrogen

in the generator or the axle is turning.

 When the hydrogen pressure in the generator changes, the air-side seal oil pump
or the air-side DC spare pump will keep seal oil pressure 0.085MPa higher than the
hydrogen pressure. The stream turbine spare oil source will keep the seal oil pressure
0.056MPa higher than the hydrogen pressure.

 Keep the outlet oil temperature of the seal oil cooler between 27℃~50℃.

 After the generator has been filled with hydrogen, the induced-draft fan of the
air-side oil-returning seal tank should run continually so as to discharge the fume in
the end cap and the axle oil-returning system.

 The generator can run continually under urgent condition when the hydrogen-
side seal oil pump doesn’t supply oil, but the generator’s hydrogen amount used will
increase enormously.

 Before the main oil tank of the stream turbine stops to supply oil, first replace
the hydrogen in the generator.

Operating procedures when the generator stops:


 Maintain the seal oil pressure when the generator stops so as to prevent
the hydrogen from leaking out. At the same time the induced-draft fans continue to
run. If necessary, close the oil pump of the stream turbine, valves 263#and 265# to
prevent oil from oozing into the oil tank of the stream turbine through the spare
pressure equalizing valve 264#, which will cause the seal oil pressure to reduce. The
pipeline from the in-line of the generator bearing to the pipeline of the bearing oil-
supplying pump should have no obstruction. Meantime guarantee that the pipeline
from the generator bearing to the seal pipeline has no obstruction.
 If the spare seal oil pump is started under these circumstances, valves 263#
and 265 # should be opened, and the hydrogen pressure should be reduced to

0.014MPa or less, because next spare oil pressure will come from the low pressure oil
pump of the stream turbine, if the oil pump can not be started, the hydrogen will be
discharged from the generator.
 If welding is needed around the generator under accident, the hydrogen
must be discharged out of the generator before welding. Besides, the hydrogen source
should be cut off, the hydrogen pipe should be removed, and meantime air the welding
area properly.
 Besides the circumstances mentioned above, guarantee that the seal oil
pressure hydrogen will stay in the generator for a long time, meantime the low
pressure oil pump in the main oil tank of the stream turbine needs to be kept running,
so does the induced-draft fans. Pay attention that the high pressure seal oil can’t be
provided under these circumstances, so if the air-side seal oil pump gets out of order,
the auxiliary oil pump of the stream turbine needs to begin to work immediately, if
not, the hydrogen pressure need to be reduced to 0.014MPa or less.

Starting procedures of the seal oil pump:


 Before starting any pump, enough oil sources supply should be guaranteed
so as not to let the pumps work without oil, which will cause destructive wear between
the rotating components and the fixed components. Start the oil pumps according to
the following procedures:

 First start the air-side seal oil pump.


 Start the hydrogen-side seal oil pump.
 The receiving, lifting and storing of the seal oil system.
Receiving
 When the seal oil devices reach to the destination, one should check the devices
thoroughly in case that some components would be damaged during transportation.
Lifting
 Be especially careful during the lifting, any component should not be damaged.
Protection measures during storing
 Seal oil devices should be stored in storage room whose temperature should be

no less than 5℃, and they should not be stored in the open air.
