The Ohikari

When I take a brush and write, the writing on the paper is vibrant with life. If this paper
is folded and put around someone’s neck as an Ohikari, their feelings become radiant,
and miracles start to happen. – The Savior
of the World. HT

For an individual to give Jyorei, it is first necessary to attend a series of formal

introductory classes, followed by an initiation into divine energy. At this time, there is a
brief ceremonial reception of an Ohikari, which is a sacred silk amulet that is worn
around the neck. Inside the Ohikari is a reproduction of one of Meishusama’s hand-
painted symbols for Light, written in Chinese calligraphy. Each Ohikari carries
Meishusama’s blessings and healing power within it.
Something is considered sacred when it carries a high spiritual vibration,
communicates spiritual wisdom, or symbolizes a spiritual quality. Each of us has a
spiritual dimension deep within our being, and wearing the Ohikari helps remind us of
this dimension.
Wearing an Ohikari reinforces the connection we have, through powerful spiritual
cords, with Meishusama and God. It is through these cords that we receive the power of
Jyorei as a gift from God and Meishusama. The Ohikari is symbolic of the Light that
each of us carries within the center of our being. Meishusama writes, “The Light given
out by myself is carried instantaneously to the inscription of each and every Ohikari by
spiritual cords. This process very closely resembles that by which a central broadcasting
station sends out radio signals to any number of receivers. My spiritual body radiates
light waves through the spiritual cords.” (The Principles of Jyorei. HT)
Many have reported a sense of spiritual protection while wearing the Ohikari. The
powerful vibrations emanating from it can help to raise our level of awareness, strengthen
our intuition, lift our mood, and draw good fortune to us. To wear an Ohikari is a great
privilege.
We need to take special care of the Ohikari. How we treat it is an outer reflection of
the care and respect we give to our soul. In our busy lives, it can be easy to ignore and
neglect our spiritual life. Taking thought to be careful with our Ohikari reminds us of our
connection to the spiritual world and of the need to think and behave in ways that
enhance our spiritual condition.
Life is not a chain of haphazard events, but is essentially an intelligent reflection of
the conditions in the spiritual world. Our relationship to the Ohikari is more profound
than our relationships with ordinary objects. What happens to the Ohikari is a reflection
of our life at that time, and by association, our current inner condition. There are no
accidents. For instance, if we discover a foreign element, such as a strand of hair, inside
of the outer pouch of the Ohikari, it may reflect a spiritual impurity within us that
requires our attention. Similarly, if we were to accidentally drop the Ohikari, it may
reflect a certain carelessness about our spiritual life. In these cases, it acts as an outer
reflection of an inner condition that needs to be examined. It can also point to problems
we have with our personal relations or with our finances. Or, we may be carrying an
emotional burden within our hearts that needs to be addressed.
If something unfortunate happens to the Ohikari, the owner of the Ohikari is advised
to consult with the person designated to support his or her spiritual growth. Through
dialogue with this person, the Ohikari owner can receive help in unraveling the hidden
meaning of this incident, and also in discovering ways to improve the current situation.
The conditions and circumstances surrounding our Ohikari often have great meaning
and significance. What initially can appear as a problem may actually be an important
message from the spiritual world offering us spiritual guidance (if we can interpret it
accurately). If ever there is a need to purify our Ohikari, it may signify that our soul also
needs extra purification. It can also be an encouragement to discover God’s Will or to
resolve to do better in some area of our lives. Incidents of purification are gifts from the
spiritual world for which we can be grateful. They are opportunities to change our destiny
for the better, and often these incidents can lead us in the direction of greater peace and
harmony.
A special donation is requested to provide for the initiation into Jyorei and to thereby
receive an Ohikari. The choice to begin sharing Jyorei is a momentous decision to live a
life of generosity and service to others. It is a choice to look beyond one’s own personal
needs by focusing on the needs of others. Many have discovered that genuine happiness
does not come from the selfish pursuit of personal desires but actually comes from the act
of giving. They begin to experience a joy and fulfillment that is untouched by the daily
circumstances in their lives. The initiation donation is a concrete expression of this
commitment to giving.
