Rick Heinrichs

Rick Heinrichs is an animator and production designer. His

evocative work’s capacity ranges from stop-motion animation to
set designs on films like “Fargo” (1996).

Heinrich studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts

and was then recruited by Walt Disney Productions. He was also
the animation effects supervisor in the film “Pee-Wee’s Big
Adventure”.

Rick Heinrichs made his debut as set designer with the sequel
“Ghostbusters II” by Ivan Reitman.

His indelible mark incorporates lively, almost surrealistically

vibrant visuals from which the characters seem to pop out. His
production designs often incorporated a darker colour scheme
than the majority of other films, a feature which he used to good
effect, evincing drama, danger and otherworldliness.

In 1996, after working as a supervising art director of the

fanstasy-adventure film “Tall Tale: The Unbelievable Adventures
of Pecos Bill” (1995), Heinrichs moved in a different direction and
joined the Coen brothers’ team for the comedic mystery “Fargo”.
He had to suppress his visual interests because the brothers
wanted a set with absolutely no visual interest or charm. The
outcome of this task ended up pleasing the brothers and also
critics and audiences.

Rick Heinrichs is a production designer who brings out the traits of

the characters and aiding plot points.
