The reading material states that water pollution is the main cause of sea otter decline.

However,
the speaker in the lecture has an different opinion that predation is responsible for sea otters’
death.

For starters, no dead sea otter is discovered by people on beaches. Although the water along the
coast is polluted and even toxic, there is no direct evidence shows that sea otters are died due to
pollutant. If they are killed by water pollution, their bodies will be brought to the coast by waves.
Conversely, it is more consistent with predation theory because predators will eat sea otters and
thus no body tissue will be washed to sea shores.

Besides, predators may be forced to prey sea otters. The reading passage claims that all species in
the water area declined, so it is reasonable to assume that they are influenced by pollutants.
However, the professor states sea mammals may killed by human hunter.Because of human’s
over hunting, the number large mammals like whales decreases drastically, and predators such as
orcas have to prey other species as food substitutes, thus the number of sea otters decreases.

Third, author claims that the uneven pattern of otter decrease was caused by ocean currents or
other environmental factors, while the lecturer argues that the uneven pattern was determined
by whether the orcas were accessible to the sea otters' habitats. Because the orcas were larger
predator, it can not have access to the shallow and rocky location where the sea otters usually
stay. The fact potently supports this pattern predicted by the predation theory.

1.文章总体结构没问题，所有的论点也基本都表达清楚了，主要是一些语言问题，这篇文
章我应该会给 25-27 分；
2.一定要注意特指和泛指，否则你的语言准确度要下降很多很多；
3.每次用代词 it, they 的时候一定要注意是否会出现指代不明确或者产生歧义的情况，这是
托福 OG 中所指的 the grammar mistakes that influence reading comprehension ，这样的错误
属于严重错误。一定不能犯这样的错误。
