Principles of mentoring

1. There must be a shared understanding and agreement between the


mentor and mentee

2. The process must be understood by all those taking part

3. The process must be a developmental support for the benefit


for all taking part

4. There must be clear understanding on the level of


confidentiality that will be required

5. Any written record should be appropriate to needs to the


mentor and mentee and should be available to the mentee

6. The mentoring scheme should promote the values of the


organization

7. Communication must be open and free flow of information


throughout the process

8. There is need to create a timeframe for the frequency of


meetings and duration of the mentoring process
