Dear Human Resources,

I am a Nutrition student at CSU, Sacramento graduating in the Fall of 2018. I am passionate

about advocating for immigrants and providing nutrition education while practicing cultural
competency. I found the New Roots Education and Outreach Specialist application while
searching for jobs that have the same mission statement as myself. We share the same belief that
education is not only successful to survive but to thrive.

I will receive my Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science with my emphasis in
Nutrition and Food.

My education, previous employment, internship, and volunteer experience have provided 8 years
of valuable customer service, management, and appreciation of diversity. As an intern with Sac
State Sustainability, I have gained knowledge about the gardening process and the maintenance
of honey bees. My previous employment has created leadership, organizational, and time
management skills. My college coursework has provided knowledge of nutrition, counseling, and
culture that can be seen during my time as a volunteer with Women, Infants, and Children
(WIC).

In the United States we are experiencing an influx of immigrants and refugees. These people are
coming to this country with little resources to help them transition and be successful. The
International Rescue Committee, not only welcomes these people but provides services in
education, health, and economic wellbeing that aid in empowering these individuals not only to
survive but thrive.
