PLAYING INSTRUCTIONS
for the
UKULELE
The Ukulele is played:
1) by the fingers ofthe Left Hand (.H.) which press the sings on the fingerboard, as
indicated in the Diagrams on the pages following thereby producing the chord desied
bb) by the fingers of the Right Hind, ether by “strumming” the strings with the Ist
(or index) finger with a down stroke across the stings, ot by use of the Ukulele Felt
Pick hich is held between the thumb and fist age:
‘The DIAGRAM represents the fngeiboard of the Ukulele with its fou strings in vertical Lines, end the
frets in ovisontal lines, The frets are sections 0: divisions ofthe fingerboard between which the Left Hund

‘The Left Hane! fingers used to press down the strings within the various frets are designated by che numbers

The Right Hand (RH) fingers are employed to produce the sound {rom the Ukulele, either by striking or
strumming the stings {com top to botiom with the index finger, or with the Felt Pick beld between the
thumb and index of Ist finger, as mentioned previoudy. When stcumming with te Ist finger, itis necesury
ta hold it loosely or ria hanging pos
on. When usieg the pick, it must be held lightly so that cere is
“give” in the stroke
