Bangladesh

Background: Formerly known as Bengal, Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan in

1971 and instated their own constitution in 1972. Turmoil and instability reigned until the
1990’s when a democratic republican process provided Bangladesh with the opportunity to
vote for reform rather than overthrow leaders through military coups and assassinations,
as was more common in prior decades. Bangladesh is now under rule of the Awami league,
and is comprised of 8 provinces. Although still a work in progress, Bangladesh has made
many strides in adopting a republic and giving its people a voice.
