The figure shows a comparison of male and female students in their choice of a service

provider according to four factors or criteria for selection. The four selection criteria are
better coverage, customer service, lower rates and popularity.

‘Lower rates’ was the main factor influencing female students when choosing a service
provider. 49 females considered this to be important compared to only 10 males.
However, when it came to ‘popularity’ of the service provider, it was the main factor that
influenced male students. ‘Popularity’ was voted by 35 male students as the most
important selection criterion while only 10 female students considered it to be important.
Meanwhile, 30 male students regarded ‘better coverage’ to be the second important
selection criterion next to ‘popularity’. In contrast, only 16 female students chose this
criterion which appeared to follow ‘lower rates’ and ‘customer service’ in terms of
importance. Customer service was the only selection criterion that recorded equal
number of votes that is 25 from each gender chose this criterion.

It can be concluded that the main differences in the selection criteria between males
and females when it came to choosing a service provider were for lower rates,
popularity and better coverage.
