Lesson Plan #7 Title: Final Revisions

Performance Objective: Fifth grade students will use Microsoft Word tools to edit and revise

their essays. They will do this with 98% accuracy.

Resources or Materials Needed: Netbook with Microsoft Word installed, and a pair of

headphones.

Time: 60 minutes

Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activities: I will have students sitting on the carpet with their writing

notebooks, and I will have Microsoft Word open in read view. I will have the computer read a

portion of my essay aloud. This will be a way to engage the class, and to introduce the tool.

Step 2: Content Presentation: I will show the class the performance objective, and they will

write it in their own words and add it to the learning target wall. I will then show the class how to

use the read aloud feature in Microsoft Word. I will model this for them on my computer on the

Activboard. “Open up your essay, click the read view button at the top left hand corner, select

tools, and read aloud.”

Step 3: Learner Participation: I will have my essay ready with a few errors purposely typed. I

will have the tool read this portion aloud (the first paragraph). I will show the class how hearing

my own writing aloud has helped me catch my error. I will then dismiss students to try this out

on their own.

Step 4: Assessment: This will be the final assessment and conclusion of the unit. Students will

submit their essays once they are done with this final revision. I will assess each students’ essay

using the district created rubric for language conventions.

Step 5: Follow-Through Activities: I will ask the class for feedback on how they liked using

this tool. Students will then discuss how they could use it in the future as well.

Lesson Plan Summary: This lesson used behaviorism. This decision was made because the

content needed to be taught directly to students because non of them have ever used this tool

before.
