2010 NFPA World Safety Conference and Exposition

Fire and Life Safety Educator Scholarship Application Form

NFPA is committed to providing fire and life safety educators the best education
sessions at our 2010 Conference and Expo. To help educators take advantage of
NFPA’s extensive educational opportunities, we are awarding up to 30 scholarships to
support attendance at the NFPA Conference and Expo. The Conference will be held in
Las Vegas, NV June 7-9, 2010. Scholarship recipients will receive free conference
registration, three nights lodging and some meals during the conference. Recipients will
be responsible for their own airfare, airport transfers, some meals, and miscellaneous
expenses.

Here’s What We’re Looking For:


 Fire and life safety educators with a demonstrated need for financial support to
attend the NFPA Conference and Expo to be held in Las Vegas, NV, June 7-9, 2010.
 A commitment to attend the conference and participate in all educational sessions
offered in the public education track.

Here’s What You’ll Receive:


Each scholarship is valued at approximately $1,500 and includes:
 Full conference registration including all sessions and the Exposition (does not
include pre-conference seminars)
 Reception Sunday evening (June 6, 2010)
 $125 VISA card to be used for meals
 Three nights lodging (June 6-8, 2010)

Here Are Your Responsibilities:


 Airfare
 Some meals
 Airport transfers
 Attendance at sessions offered in the public education track of the conference.

Official Rules
 Completed application, letter of support, and essays must be received at NFPA no
later than the close of business on March 19, 2010. Decision of the judges is final.
NFPA reserves the right not to grant all of the awards.
 Proposals submitted become the property of NFPA and cannot be returned. Award
recipients will be notified by April 2, 2010.

Note: NFPA Public Education Advisors, NFPA Public Education Network and
NFPA Urban Task Force members are not eligible to receive a scholarship
because they receive other financial support to attend special meetings in
conjunction with the NFPA meeting.

Applications will be judged on the quality and thoroughness of the following four items:

1. Completed application. (25 points)

2. Letter of commitment from the chief of the fire department supporting attendance of
the fire and life safety educator at the 2010 NFPA Conference and Expo. (25 points)

3. A one-page (not to exceed 200 words) essay explaining why you should be selected
to receive a 2010 Fire and Life Safety Educator Scholarship. (25 points)

4. A one-page (not to exceed 200 words) essay highlighting how you use NFPA fire and
life safety education materials in your community. (25 points)
