Tambourine

• Small frame drum with jingles

• Headless tambourines used in pop music

To Play:

• Hold in non-dominant hand (do not put thumb in hole)

• Form “beak-like” shape with other hand

• Strike the head off center, towards edge

• Thumb role: use fleshy part of thumb to “roll” around edge of head, experiment with more/less

pressure

• Rolls: shake tambourine (in non-dominant hand) with combination of rotating wrist

movements

• Dynamics: start a crescendo by starting the roll with the tambourine low to the ground, raise it

up throughout the roll to create a crescendo.
