Dorothea Lange was born may 26, 1895, Hoboken, new Jersey, U.S died October 11, 1965, san

Francisco California), American documentary photographer whose portraits of displaced famers

during the great depression greatly influenced later documentary and journalistic photography.

The parents of Dorothea Lange are Joan Lange Nutzhorn (mom) and Henry Martin Nutzhorn

(dad) and she only head one sibling and that person was Martin Lange. An important event is

that Dorothea went to the teachers New York training school where she decided to become a

photographer. This move was partly influenced by the vistas to Arnold genthe, a renowned

photographer. She studied a photography course which was run by Clarence white the

Columbia university. One of Dorothea Lange achievements she got Guggenheim fellowship for

creative Arts U.S and Canada. One of Dorothea Lange’s quotes is that “life for people, beings to

crumble on the edges; they don’t realize it.” A second quote is that “you know there are
