SCHOOLCRAFT LA ay May Term Handbook and Course Descrintion Guide 2018-19 Distribute Course Descriptions to Students - Third Week of November Senior Selection - First Week of January (Off-Campus Seniors report on Friday to select) Junior Selections - Second Week of January ‘Sophomore Selections - Third Week of January Freshman Selections - Fourth Week of January Preliminary Schedules - March 15 Credit Recovery Recommendations from Teachers - April 15th Credit Recovery Contracts Submitted - First Day of May Term Criteria for Scheduling OPN PHEON EFE/EFA courses are yearlong and will be blocked in the schedule at same time as previous terms Career Development courses, assigned by grade (9th grade ONLY in 18/19) Credit Recovery will be assigned to those for whom it is necessary College courses placed in schedules for those who choose them ‘Seniors have first pick of elective courses Juniors have second pick of elective courses ‘Sophomores have third pick or elective courses Freshmen have last pick of elective courses Courses are assigned to those without full schedules Course Selection Guidelines 1. 2 3. 4, No more than one PE class in May Term, without written approval from the principal ‘Two college classes (minimum 5-credits) equals a full-load. No additional classes will be scheduled for students who select two college courses. All Sth graders, in 2018-19, will have one Career Development course. This will be added to each grade, in successive years. Student has a Standard Score of less than 1.81 on more than 20% of the required standards for the course. Student will be given an grade of Incomplete (I) for the course and given a chance to achieve the appropriate score on the weak standards during Credit Recovery. Student has not completed one or more major project(s) or assessment(s), in a core academic course. Student will be assigned to Credit Recovery until the project or assessment is satisfactorily completed. Student will be given an grade of incomplete (1) for the course and given a chance to achieve the appropriate score on the projeclassessment during Credit Recovery. 3. Student failed an entire term of a core academic course, and needs to take an online credit recovery course to make up the credit (may require double-blocking) Students will be recommended for Credit Recovery, in a traditionally-graded, core academic course, under the following criteria: 1. Student has a grade of less than 70% on any unit in the course. Student will be given an grade of Incomplete (1) for the course and given a chance to achieve the appropriate score on the low unit during Credit Recovery. 2. Student has not completed one or more major project(s) or assessment(s), in a core academic course. Student will be assigned to Credit Recovery unti the project or assessment is satisfactorily completed. Student will be given an grade of Incomplete (1) for the course and given a chance to achieve the appropriate score on the low unit during Credit Recovery. 3. Courses associated with core academic classes that are regularly standards-based graded, will be standards-based graded in May Term. 2. Courses associated with core academic classes that are regularly traditionally graded, will be traditionally graded in May Term. 3. All scores will be converted to letter grades for the purpose of calculating GPA and for inclusion on transcripts 4. As homework is minimized for May Term elective courses, all grades will be based projects and assessments. Participation may also be a criteria in some courses. 5. Seniors grades will be reflected on work completed up to May 31, in all May Term classes. On-site college classes, offered by KVCC, will end June 14. Off-site college classes, taken on the KVCC campuses, may not end until after June 14. \¢ ‘Students who are not taking college courses during may term will select six courses from this day catalog. May Term classes, for seniors, will end May 31. Seniors who are taking credit recovery courses, during May Term, will have until June 7, 2019, at 4:00 PM, to complete alll requirements for graduation, in order to be eligible to participate in commencement. This clause provides additional time to complete credit recovery than what is allowed in the Student Handbook.
