Name of condition or disorder: Contact Dermatitis

1. Description - what is it? ​A skin rash caused by contact with a certain substance

2. Transmission/Causes- what causes it?​Causes a rash when an irritant touches the skin
Is it Contagious?​ No, it isn't contagious.

3. Occurrence- How many people in the U.S suffer from this disorder? ​About 20% of
children in the U.S population develop allergic Contact Dermatitis.
How commonly does it occur? ​It is estimated around 13.6 cases per 1000 population.

4. Symptoms- What are the symptoms? ​what is the appearance of someone who has it?
Symptoms of contact are red rash, itching, dry, scaly skin, bumps and blisters, swelling,
burning. ​Skin looks irritated and sometimes has bumps or the rash looks scally.

5. Treatments- What are the medical treatments available for this? ​There are prescribed
medications such as Steroid Creams or Ointments or Oral medications.

6. Cure- Is there a cure for it? ​No there is just Moisturizing lotions and prescriptions.​ Are
there experimental trials being tested?​ Dimethylglyoxime test, Patch testing, and
Potassium Hydroxide preparation.

7. Prevention- How can it be prevented? If you get touched by poison ivy wash your skin
with soap and water also just be in the lookout of irritants.
