1. Description - what is it? A skin rash caused by contact with a certain substance
2. Transmission/Causes- what causes it?Causes a rash when an irritant touches the skin
Is it Contagious? No, it isn't contagious.
3. Occurrence- How many people in the U.S suffer from this disorder? About 20% of
children in the U.S population develop allergic Contact Dermatitis.
How commonly does it occur? It is estimated around 13.6 cases per 1000 population.
4. Symptoms- What are the symptoms? what is the appearance of someone who has it?
Symptoms of contact are red rash, itching, dry, scaly skin, bumps and blisters, swelling,
burning. Skin looks irritated and sometimes has bumps or the rash looks scally.
5. Treatments- What are the medical treatments available for this? There are prescribed
medications such as Steroid Creams or Ointments or Oral medications.
6. Cure- Is there a cure for it? No there is just Moisturizing lotions and prescriptions. Are
there experimental trials being tested? Dimethylglyoxime test, Patch testing, and
Potassium Hydroxide preparation.
7. Prevention- How can it be prevented? If you get touched by poison ivy wash your skin
with soap and water also just be in the lookout of irritants.
