Amanda Patrick Language Objectives

1. ELA, Narrative Structure, 4th grade

2. Lesson Goal:
Students will understand, identify and be able to recreate the narrative structure and
transitional language.

3. Content Objectives:
SWBAT… Understand and identify sequence of events in a narrative structure
SWBAT … Use proper narrative plot structure in their writing
SWBAT… Collaborate and work with a partner to present ideas

4. Social and Academic Language demands:

Describe a story.
Know the narrative structure.
Create their own narrative writing.
Use transitional words.
Know these words introduction, rising actions, climax, and falling action, and resolution.

5. Chosen Demands:
I am using Students will discuss with a partner to share ideas, and students will create and
share their own narrative as my two language demands. I am using these because they not only
address the targets involving the narrative structure that I want students to understand but
they also require collaboration between students. If they are working with a partner for this
activity they are using academic and social language intertwined together throughout the
whole time. They will be able to practice social interactions, academic language, and use all
forms of communication including listening, speaking, reading and writing. This way I am
making sure they are getting both social and academic language in the classroom.

6. Language Objectives:
SWBAT … Explain the events of the story “Three Little Pigs” to a partner using social language
SWBAT… Use the academic language introduction, rising actions, climax, and falling action, and
resolution when filling out their plot chart
SWBAT … Use specific transitional words (in the beginning, then, finally) when writing their
story with a partner
