Radio Production Checklist

Statement of Intent – Should include direct reference to intended

Analysis of relevant radio programmes and similar TV programmes -
use of technical elements (speech, music, sound effects, editing).

Research BBC Radio 1, BBC Sounds Like Friday Night, The Live Lounge
Show, The Tube, The Word
Analysis of relevant radio programme websites - use of technical
elements (layout, images, font, colours, navigation). Should include

research into BBC Radio 1, BBC Sound Like Friday Night, Pitchfork and
other similar Music Magazine Websites
Background research into media institution - typical content, mode of
address, brand identity - this can be linked to work on the Radio 1
3 Breakfast Show for the Evolving Media exam topic. As brief is for a
BBC branded show your research should reflect this including the
BBC’s core values to Educate, Entertain and Inform.
Target audience research – should include surveys, audience analysis
4 and breakdown of BBC Radio 1 audience.

5 Initial production concepts – this could be done as digital mood


boards, planning on word or PP. Complete by Mid Nov
Proposed Running Order - It should include the opening 30 seconds
6 title sequence, the second 30 seconds and the second 2 minutes of
the show. Complete by late Nov
Script – this will need to have a first draft that can be discussed in
7 class and also needs to be tightly timed before any recording takes
place. Complete by late Nov
Pitch – This is the full Radio Music Programme pitched proposal
8 including the proposed running order and script – Complete by late
Nov
Audience Feedback – This should happen once all the key production
9 elements are in place. This should be presented in class so that
teacher and students can give critical feedback.
Production Schedule – This should be created once all the elements
10 above are in place and you are ready to start recording – Complete by
early Dec
Website Draft layout – Basic plans for this should be completed by

mid Dec

Website wireframe – Basic website up and running by End of Dec
