DQ 1:

• What similarities and differences do you see between functions and linear equations?

All linear equations are function, but not all functions are linear equations. A linear
equation takes an independent variable (x) and maps it onto the y (dependent variable)
axis.

• Are all linear equations functions?

All except x=0. That is a line, but it's not a function. Every other linear equation is a
function.

• Is there an instance when a linear equation is not a function? (Support your answer).

x=0 is not a function because it does not pass the vertical line test. That is because it is a
vertical line.

**Create an equation of a nonlinear function and provide two inputs for others
to evaluate.

f(x) = x^2

Evaluate f(2), f(4)

**Provide additional similarities and differences between functions and linear equations.

The can both be represented on the cartesian coordinate system. They both map an
independent variable onto a dependent variable. Linear functions, though, can only be a
straight line while other functions can take on many different shapes.
