Bored Pile Capacity and Safety Factor

-The partial safety factors applied to soil resistance values are according to German
annex of Eurocode (DIN EN-1997-1), as stated in the design briefing. We have obtained
the resistance values based on correlations (empirical data) and hence applied the
corresponding resistance partial safety factors (gb, gs, gt = 1.4) for a permanent design
situation accordingly, and no further reduction should be applied. We don’t use the
correlation factor ξ here, which is required when obtaining the resistance values from a
static or dynamic pile load test.

Even if we took two test results from other similar projects; ξ=1.25 and the partial
resistance factors gb, gs, gt = 1.1 would be applied. Hence, we would apply a total
resistance reduction factor of 1.1*1.25=1.375, which is less than 1.4; and so we would
be on the safe side with the current approach. For your reference attached here with is
the DIN annex of EC 7.

Pile Types (Lengths) and Settlements

We can harmonize the pile length to reduce types of piles. For example, 46.11m,
46.21m, 46.61m and 46.71m we can round off all to 46.71m.
