Description of Educational Setting:
The Evans Learning Community provides a unique setting that supports the educational pathways for students from the local
area. Newly arrived, refugee and international students are catered for in the dynamic Intensive English Centre. Students from
across Western Sydney Region are catered for in the Autism Unit. Places in the Return to School Centre are being sort from
across the region as a response to the success of the re-integration of students with challenging behaviours on return to their
home school. Year 7 and 8 students are involved in an innovative Middle Years Project.
Christine has worked: with the Learning and Support Faculty in the mainstream part of the school, which supports all faculties;
and in The Return to School Centre.
‘Summary Comments:
As part of her Secondary Professional Practice 3, Christine worked as a volunteer School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO)
with the Learning and Support Faculty at Evans High School. During this time she supported high need students (learning and
behavioural) within the classroom in a broad range of subject areas. Teachers provided positive feedback regarding her support
in these classrooms. She worked in the Learning and Support Faculty, during which time she taught in small group and one-to-
one situations. Christine also worked in the Return to School Centre with one of the Head Teacher Suspension for Western
Sydney Area, during which time she supported a student who was transitioning back into mainstream lessons. Christine showed
Initiative as she participated in the following tasks: observation of a variety of teaching strategies; supervising and supporting
individual students during lessons; assisting in class a student with vision impairment; and providing small-group and individual
support for students during their project based learning activities with TAS.
During this time Christine was punctual, dressed professionally, and spoke with clarity and respect to students and staff. Whilst
working with staff she displayed cooperation and interest in the responsibilities she was assigned. Christine presented with a
Quiet yet confident manner when communicating with staff and students.
