Following are the SEM micrographs of the Napthalenic nanocomposites (NPNC)

loaded with the unmodified and Organically modified Silica micro-beads. The fig 1-3
are the SEM micrographs of the Napthalenic nanocomposites (NPNC) loaded with the
unmodified surfaces, while the fig 4-6 shows the SEM micrographs for the Napthalenic
nanocomposites (NPNC) reinforced with the Organically modified Silica beads. It is
obvious from the micrographs that the unmodified silica beads have very sharp and
clear boundaries along with very smooth surfaces. Further there is a wide gap present
between the matrics and silica particles which implies that there is a very week
attraction with the Napthalenic matrics material and silica beads such phase separation
and thermodynamic immiscibility results in the stress concentration defect rather than
competent reinforcement material. While on the other hand the Organically modified
silica beads are finely mixed, there is no such clear identification of boundaries which
proves the improving surface interaction between the NPNC and organically modified
silica beads. And with surface modification the separated phases are changed to the
single phase nanocomposites material.
