is first order with a rate constant of 1.0 × 10-2 s-1. Calculate the half-life of the
decomposition reaction. Determine the fraction of sample that is remained after 2.0
minutes. [5 marks]

(b) When a solid zinc oxide, ZnO is added in the reaction, the rate of the reaction
increases. Explain the function of ZnO in the reaction. Sketch and label an energy
profile diagram for the reaction with and without zinc oxide. [5 marks]

(c) A compound Y with an initial concentration of 4.0 M undergoes decomposition to


form Z. The rate constant of this reaction at 298 K is 2.95×102 M1s1 and the
activation energy is 70.8 kJ mol1. Determine the rate constant of the reaction at 350
K. Explain your answer by using Arrhenius equation. [5 marks]
