Dear Mrs. Gump,

My name is Andrew Rivas. I am Forrest’s algebra teacher. I am writing you this letter to
express my concern over your son’s performance in my classroom. Forrest has fallen behind his
classmates. It is not due to effort, or lack thereof, on the part of your son. I simply believe that
Forrest is just not ready for this level of mathematics and would benefit greatly from being
placed into a pre-algebra class.

I was aware of Forrest’s struggles early on. Even with extra one-on-one practice, he was not
grasping essential concepts he will need as the year moves along. After two chapters, Forrest’s
grade is at 52%. The second lowest score in the class is a 68%. And out of 32 other students,
only 7 are below 80%. Based on the results, I believe this move will be in the best interest of
Forrest. I have spoken to a colleague that has room in her class for Forrest. She is a great
teacher and your son would be in great hands.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. If you have any questions or concerns, please
call me at 987-654-3210 ext. 123. You can also email me at arivas@greenbowschools.net.
Sincerely,

Andrew Rivas
