Hospitalized for the last two years in various stages of malnutrition
Anthropometrics:
5’3”, 95#, BMI is 16.8 kg/m2 (underweight)
IBW is 115#, %IBW is 82.6% (low)
Nutrition History:
Patient states that she has financial worries and usually eats her kid’s
leftovers to make sure they have enough to eat first.
Biochemical Measurements:
N/A
Comparative Standards:
Calorie needs: 1,079.5-1,295.5 kcals (25-30 kcal/kg for underweight)
Protein needs: 43.2-51.8 g (1-1.2 g/kg for underweight)

Suboptimal energy intake related to patient stated diet as evidenced by patient
states she has financial worries and usually only eats her kid’s leftovers.

Intervention:
Recommend low-cost, high protein foods such as eggs, beans and nuts
Recommend patient gains weight
Recommend patient apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
(SNAP)
