Observation Task 1: Introduction to the learning environment


Focus: The learning context
Procedures:
1. Introduce yourself to your Mentor School Teacher. Tell him/her about yourself, the
Bachelor of Education Program, and your tasks for the day.
2. Find the staffroom and introduce yourself to two staff members during your breaks. Tell
them why you are in the school and when you will visit.
3. Find you way around the school/workplace and find the library and any other specialist
areas.
4. The following items must be placed in your portfolio:
• A class list and
• Student’s daily/weekly timetable
• School Calendar with important dates (holidays, school events, trips etc.)
• Curriculum map with the themes to be studied
• Weekly and daily class timetables for the MST
5. Get involved with the learners as directed by your mentor. What they are doing and why?
They doing their dough Gym, so they move their muscles, and my MST advised me to play
with them and get involved.
6. Ask permission to take photographs of the displays, the learning environment and learners.
(Remember, no pictures of student faces!)
7. Share mobile phone numbers with your MST. When the best time to call her if you will be
sick?
The best time to call first in the morning.

Reflection:
How did you feel on the first day?
It is a whole new experience; it looks so much different from what I thought. I thought
teaching would be easy, but the students were hard to control.
What did you do to show that you are a professional?

There are five things that I did to show that I am professional.


1-I came on time.
2-respecting the clothes code.
3- paying attention with Ms. Lisa, and with what she does.
4-helping students who need help.
