Genre

I want to create a video for a song within the genre of POP. I plan to do some background research into
the genre and any of the most popular artists within this genre right now.

The song I have chosen is ‘Strangers’ originally by Sigrid. This song falls into the genre of POP, so by
doing research into this genre, t will help me to create ideas that work to fit into the normal conventions
of the POP Genre.

According to Theorists, characteristics of pop music include an aim of appealing to a general audience,
rather than to a particular sub-culture or ideology, and an emphasis on craftsmanship rather than formal
"artistic" qualities. This means we can often find pop music filling the ‘TOP 10/40’ charts etc as it tends
to be likeable by a majority. By having this information, it allows me to construct my artist in a way that
is appealing to a wide audience by making them diverse and flexible within audiences.

When searching on youtube, I found some of the most viewed music videos of all time. These included:

 ‘Despacito’ - 5.7B views

 ‘Shape of you’ - 3.9B views
 ‘See you again’ - 3.8B views
 ‘Gangnam Style’ - 3.2B views

For further research, I want to re-watch the videos above to analyse them in greater detail to see if
there are any similarities and differences within them.

I then wanted to see which songs reached the UK Top 10 right now.

genre which I can research and use to further expand my artists website and music video.
