The bulding does not have power and has reportedly been abandoned for about three years. The roo'is leaking, and the bulding is being broken into and vandalized on ‘an ongoing basis. Widespread deterioration ofthe metal roof deck has occurred, Description and Backaround ‘The existing bulding was constructed in the late 1960s and served as a library for most of its life. The building is three stories with a ground, fist, and partial second-floor level. At the frst floor, there isa large open space in the mile of the building that extends two stories to the ‘oof. The second-loor wrars the perimeter ofthe building around this open space. Soe Figure 1 attached, ‘The structure consists of ste! framing with wide-lange beams supporting the flors and roofs. ‘Tho roof deck consists of 1¥%inch, 22-gauge steel deck, and it generally spans about 6 feet between steel beam suprorts, The floor structure consists of castin-place concrete slabs ‘supported by stee! beams. ‘There are reportedly hazarious materials (asbestos) in localized areas ofthe roof and calling, Since there are obvious signs of deterioration of the metal roof deck, the Contractor and Developer planning the demolition work would ike to know I the building Interior is safe to ‘acoess and whether the roct is safe to work on top of. | visited the site on July 24,2018 to make preliminary observations. | retuned tothe site on July 31 to dotermine locations ef localized celing removal in order to observe the underside of the ‘metal deck. Observations were limited to what could be seen at openings that were made in the celing and other areas where the structure ‘was readily visible. No physical testing or analysis was performed other than for the load of a scissor lit operating on the first-oor structure as mentioned above, The existing metal deck is generally in poor condition with widespread flaking rust visible atthe Underside. The deck is painted and likely has a galvanized coating, though this was not verified. ‘See Photographs 1 and 2. Rust fakes from the metal deck have fallen down onto the floor through the metal fn ceing. See Photograph 3.
