Learning characteristics of the student for whom this curriculum would be age and
learning appropriate: The original concept of Where Does My Money Go was designed for
students to develop decision making skills to help improve their financial capabilities. This
innovative program is designed to teach these skills to children with and without developmental
disabilities and learning differences, and to teenagers and adults with developmental disabil
ties.
Where Does My Money Go addresses the following transition needs: Students will learn and
improve basic money handling skills in various areas of everyday life. The settings covered in
the game include the grocery store, mall, shopping mart, restaurant and recreational outings.
Additionally, the program addresses earning money, paying fair share of weekly and monthly
bills, and dealing with good and bad luck money situations.
Other features of Where Does My Money Go: The game provides two levels of complexity
designed to appropriately target specific age groups and rates of development. Level | utilizes
even dollar amounts and only quarters. Level 2 utilizes varying money amounts with bills and all
Coins. In addition to the levels of complexity, the game also provides participants with 3
variations of play that are designed to target different life skills. The first one focuses on decision
making and choice, The second focuses on taxable items and total amount due on those items
(level 2 only). The third focuses on communication skills.

ofall educational abilities. The Level 2 game board program has been proven effective with
secondary aged students.
