Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For this lesson I will have technology and art incorporated. The art
portion is a way for the students to create their own product. With Popplet I will be using graphics to display
the needed information for them to learn.

Lesson idea implementation: For my lesson on Thomas Jefferson I created a Popplet web-diagram with
information. First, I’ll go over the word wall with the students and tell them to listen for these words or key
phrases while we go over who Thomas Jefferson was. After going over the word wall I will move to the next
section that is all information about Jefferson. I’ll have the students come up to the board and pick which
section we’ll talk about first and so on (His presidency, why he is famous, revolutionary war 1775, and
Hamilton). From each bullet point I will lecture for 5-10 mins as to not lose their interest. After we go over the
main facts making references back to our word wall, I will go over some fun facts about Jefferson which I am
sure the students will enjoy.
After we go over all information, I will have a fun art activity for the students to participate in. Each group will
have a set of materials (construction paper, safety scissors, glue, markers, crayons, felt, googley eyes etc.) and
each student will have a paper bag. I will instruct them to make a paper bag puppet Thomas Jefferson and
include an item with the puppet that relates to our word wall. Example would be a book because of the
library or a little declaration of independence. I have an example puppet from ARED course to show them as
an example. Before end of class I will close my word, wall and ask each student to write down one key idea
they remember about Thomas Jefferson and this will be their ticket-out-the-door assignment along with
turning in their puppet that will be hung around the class and graded for added information.
Reflective Practice: By the end of the lesson the students should have a simple understand about Thomas
Jefferson being the 3rd president and what he did as a founding father. I think having a tech and art aspect will
really keep the students interested in my lesson.
