Family Math Games for Second Grade

Roll The Dice
(You will need 2+ players and 2 dice)
1. Roll both dice.
2. Add both numbers together.
or
3. Try subtracting the smaller larger from the larger number.

Make 10
(2 players & 1 or 2 dice)
1. Roll one die.
2. Both players will try to shout out the number needed to make 10 first.
3. The number that is needed to make 10 will be the player’s score for the round. For example, if a 3 is rolled,
the players will have to shout out 7, because 3 and 7 makes 10.
4. The first person to shout out 7, will earn 7 points.
For 2 dice: 2 dice are rolled. Players will try to either add or subtract to make 10. For example, if two 6’s
are rolled, the players will try to shout out 2. This is because, 6+6=12 and 12-2=10.

Roll Them and Add Them!
(2+ players and 2-3 dice)
2 Dice:
1. Roll both dice.
2. Add both numbers together. For example, if you roll a 1 and a 3, add them to make 4.
Try it with 3 dice!
3. For 3 dice, you will do the same, except, this time you will add all 3 numbers.

Final Countdown
(2+, 2 dice, scrap paper and pencil)
1. Each player will write the number “99” on the top of their scrap paper.
2. Next, the person will roll both dice and will subtract the sum from 99.
For example, if the person rolls a 4 and a 5 (5+4=9, 99-9=90)
3. Each player will take a turn rolling.
4. First player to get to zero wins.

PIG
(2 players & 1 or 2 dice)
Goal- be the first to reach 100
1. A player will roll 1 die. The same player will roll repeatedly.
2. The same player will keep on rolling until the player rolls a 1 or
chooses to stop rolling
3. Each time the player rolls, they must add the numbers together.
4. If a 1 is rolled, the players’ turn ends and they do not receive
any points for the numbers rolled.
For example, if one player rolls 4,3,2,6,1, his/ her turn will end
because he/ she rolled a 1 and he /she will lose all points. If the
person rolls 4,3,2,6, and decides to stop rolling his/ her score
will be 15 (4+3+2+6).
* For 2 dice- if a single 1 is rolled on either die, the person’s
turn will end. If they roll two 1’s, the player earns 25 points.
Doubles are worth double the points.
