techniques for creating variations. Students will create their own variation to a given theme.

Assess- Students will listen critically to a theme and variation composition and answer
questions about what they heard.
Create- Students will compose their own variation based on the parameters discussed in class.

Students will apply their knowledge from our previous lesson by composing 2-3 variations for a
given melody. Students will then describe their process for composing their variations.

Students will demonstrate their ability to:


Create- Students will create 2-3 variations of a given melody.
Assess- students will assess their work by writing a brief description of each variation.

Informal assessment through observing and discussion students’ creative process

Students will revise and complete their compositions. Students will provide a written
description of each variation. Students will perform one of their variations for the class.

Students will demonstrate their ability to:


Perform- Students will perform one of their variations for their peers.
Assess- Students will listen critically to the performers and engage in discussion about the
compositional techniques used by their classmates.

Teacher guided discussion
In-class performance
Students will submit their final draft with written descriptions
