Today Marks the 63rd (death anniversary) of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, Principal
architect of the Constitution of India & one of the founding fathers of Modern India after Independence is observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas. Parinirvan is one of the chief principles and goals of Buddhism derived from The Sanskrit term (parinibbana) which means "nirvana after death". Because of Dr.Ambedkar’s belief in Buddhism, his stature and contributions to the eradication of untouchability, bringing in social Justice & equal rights in India, he was considered to be a Buddhist guru and as a mark of respect today is remembered as Mahaparinirvan Diwas. The main reason for observing this day is not just to pay respect to the great leader and social reformer but to remember his great legacy and inculcate a sense/message of responsibility among us towards our country. It is to remind us today of the great challenges & hardships that our leaders have faced. Imagine 80 years back under such social segregation where you are not allowed to be in the social circle or have the same opportunities of development. A student having an ambition to learn could become Independent India's first law minister, the principal architect of the Constitution of India and touch the life of millions through his work. His resolve and ideology of equality and social justice could pave the way for generations and generations to come. This also became the means of linking the human potential to be considered 'unproductive' to the mainstream of the country and had unprecedented impact on the country’s socio economic & cultural fabric. As Dr. Ambedkar himself has said “Humans are mortal. So are ideas. An idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering. Otherwise both will wither and die.” Let us all take some time today and reflect upon the great ideas and legacy left behind by Dr.Ambedkar
