Abstract

Through Lauren Woolstencroft’s journey of becoming a Paralympic champion, Toyota’s

“Good Odds” is trying to inspire individuals who have disabilities to overcome obstacles and

maintain the determination to keep moving forward. However Toyota’s “Good ODds”, actually

portrays the message that having a disability is more of flaw. Utilizing pathos, ethos, logos, and

Rosemarie Garland-Thomson’s Disability-Feminist-Theory, Toyota’s “Good Odds”, can be seen

as a commercial that implies that individuals with disabilities become successful, when winning

a gold medal or overcoming a difficult obstacle. Having a disability should not be seen as a

negative thing. Therefore, Toyota should be more aware of what they portray through their

advertisements, especially when it relates to disabilities so that they don’t offend anyone.
