History of KZFR

KZFR, a Local Community Radio Station that official ran in 1990 but took many years

on hard work to be able to succeed. What exactly is a Community Radio and what are they all

about? Community Radio Station are run by and for the people. The intentions that were set

when Community Radios were being a thing were giving people a tool and encouraging

involvement in local events that being political or social. This type of radio also intended to

provide access to the media for those who didn’t have acceded to it before. As well as an

increase in political knowledge and experience. Most importantly it gave opportunity of

self-expression. Many of these things have brought themselves out into modern era. Places like

KZFR do give this sort of platform to the locals and community and continue to do so.

Our very own local Community radio station before they had their transmitter set out in

Nimshew Ridge, California had to use tapes for their shows and had to physically maneuver said

tape to the transmitting tower in order to even broadcast the show. Their founding fathers had the

idea of beginning this project since 1981 however the downsides of being a non profit

community radio isn’t as easy to broadcast is the station was media driven. It is very important to

appreciate all the good that a community radio really has to offer.
