Introduction

The reviewed article is titled Material Development to Raise Awareness of Using Smart Boards:
An Example Design and Development Research by Serpil Gunaydin and Aysen Karamete.

The journal article discusses the importance of using smart board technology in the classroom
however emphasis that teachers may not be well equipped to do so. Ultimately leading smart boards to
be used as overhead projectors, and to search the internet.

The article examines how to better prepare teachers to use this new technology within the
classroom. Smart boards can be used for a variety of reasons, however it is a matter of teachers knowing
how to access and use the smart board properly. With that intent in mind, a program was set up
designed to have teachers interact with the smart board.

Summary
Through the developed program teachers were able to answers and scroll though the program.
Once completed teachers were given the option to respond to questions regarding the ease and the
functionality of the smart board. Teachers were able to see the versatility of what the smart board has
to offer. If teachers have the proper training and opportunity to get comfortable with the smart board
they can be successful in utilizing the equipment.

Conclusion
I choose the article due to my exposure to smart boards. I work in several classrooms and I have
regular exposure to smart boards. However, I do see smart boards being used as overhead projectors on
a regular basis. If technology is to play a role within the classroom, it is important that teachers are well
equipped to do so. In my future teaching I would like to be better prepared to utilizes smart boards to its
full capabilities.
