Guidance Article Activity

The article “Helping Young Children with Sharing” explained to parents and

educators how difficult are for young children to share toys between peers. The

article cites a couple of techniques that can be used to help children to learn the

sharing process and to minimize conflict among them. It also mentions one research

website about when actually the children will be more willing to share and how

normal is this behavior among them.

I believed that the methods that they exposed in the article were very

developmental appropriate. The techniques provide a lot of confidence, compassion,

modeling and recognition of feelings to the children, helping them to learn how to

cope with their behavior.

I have been using most of the methods mentioned by the article, but I believe

I have to start helping children to come up with their solutions, while guiding them.

I also like the use of an alarm clock to help them to understand, by visual and

auditory cues, when it’s the time to share.

I never thought about the clock or bell to signalize the moment the children

will give the other children the opportunity to play with the toy. I will definitely

incorporate this technique in my classroom, using my thunder tube or my alarm

clock to alert them about sharing process.
