Stone Music Night: Description
Our experience for the Stone Spring Music Night will be catered to grade level 4 students
and will be representative of anchor standard #5. As stated, anchor standard #5 is to develop and
define artistic techniques and work for presentation. The goal of our experience is to have the
students interacting with rhythms, and using rhythmic patterns to play, and create variations of
rote songs. Our technologies will include various items to be used as percussion equipment, and
potential use of a Makey Makey. Some variety of the instruments will include, maracas, bells,
claves, tambourine etc. With the different options of instrumentation, students can elaborate their
own complementary rhythm to familiar rote songs such as, Jingle Bells and Twinkle Twinkle
Little star. They will be provided with recordings of the songs to align their tempo and structural
rhythm. The students will be handed a 8-10 bar rhythmic sheet, which will serve as a guide to
help them during the experience. The overall purpose of the experience is for students and
families to collaborate their own interpretation of music. Not only will the experience help
students understand rhythmic structure, but also enhance their knowledge for future creativity.
