The Texas Success Initiative

(TSI)

You are receiving this message because you may not have satisfied the requirements of
the statewide TSI law. The TSI law intially requires assessment (i.e. testing) of all new
students or verification that the student is either exempt or waived from the
requirements of the law. More details about the HCC TSI plan are available.

Based on our records, you have not satisfied the requirements of the law as indicated
by your setup in our student system. You may have satisfied the law, however your
setup in our system does not indicate that.

If you are a transfer student (i.e. attended another college or university prior to HCC)
IF you are a current or returning HCC student (i.e. have taken classes at HCC)
IF you have never attended college (no college credit)

If you are a transfer student

You may already be exempt or waived from the TSI law. Or you may have partially or
fully satisified the requirements of the law at another Texas public institution. In these
cases, it is a very simple matter for us to set your TSI status up correctly in our system.
You can take care of this issue on campus or by email below. We will need one or more
of the following:

1. Unofficial copies of your college transcripts or grade reports

2. Student copies of test scores from ACT, SAT, or TAKS tests

Send your HCC ID or SSN and a scan/email copy of the above to a counselor on campus
or to one of the contacts listed below. Once your TSI status is set, you can then enroll.
Then, within 2-3 weeks of enrollment, we will need official copies of your college
transcripts sent to the Office of Student Records, P.O. Box 667517, MC 1136,
Houston, TX 77266-7517. If we do not receive the official transcripts in a timely
manner, an enrollment and transcript hold will be placed on your record.

IF you are a current or returning HCC student

It may be that you have met the requirements of the TSI law, however, our system does
not indicate that. You can meet the requirements of the law by doing one of the
following:

1. Take a TSI test in reading, writing, and mathematics to determine College

Readiness. HCC offers the Compass test for a one-time charge of $25. Testing is
offered on a walk-in basis at one of the larger HCC campuses.
2. If you met the requirements of the TSI law through another college, provide us
with unofficial copies of your college transcripts or grade reports.

3. If you met the requirements of the TSI law through test scores while in high
school, provide us with student score reports or high school transcript showing
passing test scores from ACT, SAT, or TAKS tests.
4. Speak to a counselor about why you might be waived from the test according to
state guidelines.

Take a TSI test at an HCC campus or send your HCC ID or SSN and a scan/email copy
of the above to one of the contacts listed below.. Once your TSI status is set, you can
then enroll. Then, within 3 weeks of enrollment, we will need official copies of your
college or high school transcripts, whichever indicates the basis for your exemption, sent
to the Office of Student Records, P.O. Box 667517, MC 1136, Houston, TX
77266-7517. If we do not receive the official transcripts in a timely manner, an
enrollment and transcript hold will be placed on your record.
