I. Brown vs Broad of Education


1954
A. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act
1965
1. Ensured that federal assistance would be sent to the poorest schools and
communities in the nation.
A. Title IX
1972
1. Part of the Education Amendments of 1972 that states that "No person in the
US shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the
benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or
activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
A. Education for All Handicapped Children Act (PL 94-142)
1975
1. This act ensured that all children with disabilities could receive free, appropriate
public education. This law has been revised in 1990, 1997, and 2004.
A. A Nation at Risk
1983
1. A report issued by a group of scholars and educators to the US people. The
report called for tougher standards for graduation, higher college entrance
requirements, and a return to what was called "academic basics." It also
recommended an increase in the amount of homework given.
