Cover Letter - Unit 2 Medows and Malls
Cover Letter - Unit 2 Medows and Malls
In this unit, students were asked to optimize the cost of land distribution in a city.
The residents of the city were trying to divide amounts of land for recreation and
development, although there were a variety of constraints that came in to play. For
example, the amount of land used for recreation couldn’t be higher than x amount and so
on and so forth. The skills we learned during this part of the unit were writing inequalities
and equations from word problems. During the next part of the unit, we had to learn the
most effective way to find the best price while incorporating some of the inequalities we
wrote previously. During this part of the unit, we learned how to graph 3D planes. We
then moved on to systems of equations. If we knew the value that 2 of the equations
equaled, then we would know the best land distribution. After learning the systems of
equations with two equations, we had to figure out a way to use all of the many
inequalities we wrote at the beginning of the unit. We learned matrices to do this.
Matrices took up the bulk of this unit. We learned how to add, multiply, and find the
inverse of matrices. At the end of the project, we used our new knowledge of systems f
equations and matrices to finally solve the problem.
