Observation #15

For my final Observation I went back to Mr. Villareal’s Pre-Cal class. The lesson passed

as usual full of group activities and explaining and modeling problems for the students.

However, Mr. Villareal did use another strategy from the Fundamental 5, Recognize and

Reinforce. Whenever a student answered a question, he would make sure to recognize that

student as the finder of the answer, which boosts student’s confidence and makes them want to

answer more questions.

The classroom organization stayed the same with students still being group in fours in

order to complete the necessary task and amplify the opportunity for students to learn either from

him or their peers. One thing that I’ve noticed about Mr. Villareal’s class is that students rarely

get worksheets, instead the focus is on learning the material and mastering the concept. One

thing that Mr. Villareal has I feel helps students mathematical thinking, he has a word wall full

of math terms that help students understanding about the subject. Once knowing what a specific

word means students can perform the necessary computations to get the answers.
