Observation #11 and #12

For these two observations I went back to Transmountain Early College High School to

observe Mr. Villareal’s Junior Pre-Cal class. He used the same strategies as mentioned in

previous observations, Small Group Purposeful Talk and Power Zone from the Fundamental 5 as

well as Vygotsky’s theory of Sociocultural learning by doing and with others. His class had the

same structure of teaching a lesson, introduce a topic by bring back something students already

know then showing how it connects to the new topic. He goes on to explain and model a problem

then had students try it themselves with their group, then explaining how they got the answer.

This type of activity would include any student’s learning level and style, and provide

opportunities for others to teach the problem and other to learn from there peers in case they

didn’t understand the teacher.

The class organization stayed pretty much the same with students being grouped in fours
