A study was conducted in order to investigate the smaller population of female radiology
technologist in Ghana, and to establish reasons as to why fewer women chose to go into this field
instead of men. A quantitative survey was created and distributed to 40 female radiographers,
working in different places (clinics, hospitals, and alone standing imaging centers) in order to
establish factors that come into play when considering radiology as a career choice. Out of the 40
women that had the survey, 30 of them completed it and returned it. The results showed that
possible side effects of radiation exposure is the main factor (57%) as to why women chose
different fields, along with lack of education, books, and male dominance.

The article evaluated very valid points and educated the outside world about what women
go through in other countries to do what we do here so easily. In the United States, the profession
is dominated by women so in this profession we need to value other women and by helping in
educating women about the effects of radiation, we can help the women population in Ghana
working in radiology rise.
