Musical Bears In this experience design project, participants are engaging in the process of creating sound/music through touching the clothing of a stuffed bear. The participants will select certain musical selections and interpret them to emotions that they choose. They will be able to go onto the Scratch coding website, choose a set of music, and then touch the bear and determine if they believe the song best fits the emotion that they chose. Our challenge for them is to find music that can not only describe a feeling but can also have multiple emotions attached to it. As active teachers, Jackson and | will go around asking participants how they use music to express themselves. We'll ask them if they make playlists for when they are feeling sad, happy, etc. and we will also ask what elements of the song they think contribute to that emotion they felt. The idea is that we want them to connect music to their everyday lives and we want them to see what elements in music make it expressive. We'll also track the reactions and experiences of the individuals as they play. Technology Used - MakeyMakey, (https://makeymakey.com/) The MakeyMakey is going to be used to connect the Bear to the MacBook so when one comes in contact with the bear, the sounds that we have on Scratch will be played. - Scratch, (https://scratch.mit.edu/) This program is the coding that goes behind the music being produced from the bear. - Soundtrap, (https:/www.soundtrap.com/) This piece of technology is being used to create the music that will play when the participant touches the bear. - MacBook, The MacBook is what is displaying the coding software, and it is what produces the actual noise. Specific Learning Outcomes - Leaming goal 1: Participants will seek to understand relationships between music and other arts, varied contexts, and daily life through emotions (MU:Cn11.0.T.la ) - Leaming goal 2: Participants will interpret the expressive intent of musical selections based on treatment of the elements of music, digital and electronic features, and purpose.
