Dear fellow Renfrew County resident,

We are writing to you today to ask for your signature on a petition to bring a Women’s Residential
Addiction Facility to Renfrew County. In partnership with Bernadette McCann and others, we would like
to address this gap in our system.

We are seeking your Community and Financial support for this project. Discussions have been ongoing
since 1987 regarding this issue, and with the now new opioid epidemic in our country and county, the
need has never been greater. Many women in our community struggle with addiction issues and must
travel outside the county to receive residential treatment services. It is challenging for many women to
leave their children and their community, which is why this new service would be extremely beneficial,
and most importantly, more successful.

We have secured a building in Pembroke at 358 Pembroke Street East that is perfect for our needs. This
building is 9000 square feet, and our hope is to have this become the Hub for Women’s Addiction and
Mental Health needs in the county.

Our goal is to be open for business in 2020, however we do require a letter of intent to fund from the
Ministry to allow us access to Infrastructure Ontario funding to renovate the building and house our
women.

Our recent research showed that over an 18 month period 160 women were referred out of the county
for Addiction Treatment. This is unacceptable, the people of Ontario deserve care as close to their home
as possible.

In the coming weeks this petition will be circulated across the county, and we will ask our MPP to bring it
to Queens Park on our behalf and to demand that the Ministry of Health address this issue.

Thank you for your support.

Yours Respectfully,

Tom Carroll, Executive Director Leigh Sweeney, Executive Director

Mackay Manor Inc. Bernadette McCann House
