The Board Game

Welcome to BrISK, the world’s first chemistry-based domination board game.

Since this game contains dangerous chemicals and temperamental reactions, please read all
instructions carefully to ensure fun and safe game play.

SET-UP

Catapult: Set the catapult off to one side with a beaker and a balloon.

Lighthouse: Connect the battery to the holder. Connect the two free alligator clips with a piece of
aluminum foil. The light should NOT be on. Make sure the bread board is under the gameboard.

HOW TO WIN
To win you must collect 4 unique reaction cards. This can include reaction 1, 2, 3, the catapult,
or the lighthouse.

STARTING THE GAME

Choose every player’s starting place based on which starting point they are closest to. The
starting points are marked by the gold stars. Place the player’s flag on their starting point.

Give each player 2 units (beads in the player’s color). Place the units in the player’s home
territory.

AT THE START OF YOUR TURN

Place new units in any territories you control, equal to the number of territories you control
divided by three (a minimum of one; rounded down) plus continent bonuses.

CONTINENT BONUSES
There are four continents, each with corresponding unit bonuses added to your unit count at the
beginning of your turn. This only applies if you control every territory in the continent.

Australia 2 units

Vatican City 6 units

Hydronia 5 units

West America 4 units

COMBAT PHASE
To attack another enemy controlled territory, you must have an adjacent territory, and you must
have two or more units.
Attacker will roll a six-sided die equal to the amount of units in their territory minus one (max
three).
Defender will roll a six-sided die equal to the number of units in the defending territory (max
two).
Attacker and defender will compare the highest numbers rolled on their dice. For every pair of
competing numbers the loser will remove one unit from their corresponding territory (defender
always wins ties). You may attack any amount of territories in this phase.

MOVEMENT
After combat, you may move any amount of units to a friendly territory (with a minimum of one
unit in each friendly territory).

GAINING CONTROL OF REACTIONS

You gain control of a reaction if you are occupying a territory with a reaction token. When you
gain control of a reaction proceed to grab its corresponding reaction card from the box or the
previous owner.

If you are the first player to gain control of a reaction card then you can do the reaction in
real life. The gameplay will stop and you will get the materials necessary for the reaction
by looking at the Reaction Reference Guide. Conduct the reaction. Each reaction will
only be done once per reaction token on the board no matter how many times they
change ownership.

WILD CARD REACTIONS

The wild card reactions are special. You can access to their reaction in the same way as normal
reactions but they involve an extra prop.

Lighthouse: To activate the lighthouse conduct the reaction in the Reaction Reference
Guide. The light of the lighthouse will turn on and remain lit for the rest of the game. The

color of the lighthouse light will reflect which player currently has ownership but the
reaction will only occur once per game.

Catapult: To activate the catapult follow the instructions on the Reaction Reference
Guide. Place the beaker under the end of the catapult with the aluminum ball. Then put
on the balloon. Make sure to place the aluminum ball in the catapult before mixing the
reactants. After the reaction the beaker should be removed from under the catapult.

The wild card reaction counts toward your victory in the same way as normal reactions.

AFTER A VICTORY
After a player wins, the winning player can conduct any reactions that were not activated during
gameplay.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
● Make sure to wear gloves at all times especially when working with chemicals.
● Steel wool is sharp. Pull it apart carefully.
● HCl is an acid. Don’t get it on your skin.

Reaction 1

2Fe (III) + 3(CuSO4) → Fe (III)2 (SO4)3 + 3Cu

- Mixing steel wool and copper sulfate

1. Put the pre-cut piece of Iron into a container

2. Use a pipet to put 10 drops of copper sulfate on top of the steel wool.

● Watch the color of the metal and the liquid

● Follow the standard safety procedures.

Reaction 2

Pb(NO3)2 + 2 KI → 2 KNO3 + PbI2

-Lead Nitrate and Potassium
1. Mix three drops of Lead Nitrate and 3 drops of Potassium
● Watch the change
● Follow the standard Safety Procedures

Reaction 3

HCl + NaHCO3 → NaCl + H2O + CO2

- Baking Soda and Hydrochloric Acid

1. Mix one spoonful of Baking Soda and one vial of Hydrochloric Acid
● Watch as the Baking Soda and the Hydrochloric Acid mix
● Observe the fizzing that occurs
